Thanksgiving

Well, it was awesome. We had a bash at the Peace Corps Choma House (which might not be there that much longer). My friend Heather tried to kill the turkey, but who knew that the skin on the neck of one of those buggers is thick as a tractor tire? It was a process, and I cooked the bird for about 2 hours too long, but I wanted to make sure it was DONE! The other fixins were great... this is the most homemade REAL Thanksgiving I've ever been to... and it was better because of it I think. We said what we were thankful for... mine was communication with the people I love. I said that I was thankful for email, post, and phone. I am thankful to those of you who really try to reach out to me while I am so far away. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and that the rest of your holiday season is blessed!

Dear Annie, sorry I haven't contacted you in such a long time, but I'm glad to hear that, despite illness, you seem to be doing well and "embracing" Africa. It's been quite a while since I last read your entries so I'm sure that I've missed a big chunk of your life there. I'm glad that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Mine was, also -- we gathered at my brother's to eat, drink, and be merry, and play football as well. We've had our annual family "Turkey Bowl" game for thirty-five years now. (Maybe I even mentioned it back when you were sitting in my classroom in 7th grade!) At my ripe age, I do more "standing around" than playing, but it's still a lot of fun. This past week-end I put up Christmas decorations. Time flies by! Know that I think of you often, Annie, and pray that all is well with you. May God continue to watch over you and bless you...Take care, kiddo.
