Africa

Well, I guess it takes anyone a period of adjustment time no matter where they wander. I guess you could say that I've really "come into my own" here in Zambia. And it just happened this week! I think that it has something to di with unnecessay attachments to home... there were things that were keeping me "there" instead of "here." On Saturday morning I was coming from my friend Mathew's village. I was on a rusty, falling-apart, taped-up chicken bus. Of course to catch it to get back to civilization, I had to be on it by 4:30AM. As it was jamming down the bumpiest dirt road in the world, the sun was coming up over the horizon. There were Lilac Breasted Rollers (birds) swooping down, giddy with humidity (it has finally rained). I had to hitch hike with my bike from a remote part of the Great North Road. There was a flowering tree next to me on the side of the tarmac. I SMELLED AFRICA. I love it here.

I miss you all; thank you for all the letters and phone calls.
RINGO

PS I did meet the young man of the previous entry. We talked about South Dakota and Minnesota. He was someone you wanted to talk to...

I am so glad you are finally "there". It has been interesting and sometimes hard, to watch your emotions- through everything, go up and down, from so far away. I wish we could go have a beer on a patio somewhere and just really catch up. Soon, the US will feel like a foreign country and you will feel that Zambia is your home. Now that you have sprouted new wings, really experience Zambia and everything that comes your way! Don't skip out anything you will regret down the line! Smooches from Chris and me!
